How to link Pan card with Aadhar card

The PAN-Aadhaar link check status is looming large as the last date to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) card and the Aadhaar card draws near. The deadline for linking the PAN card and Aadhaar card is the 31st of March, 2023, after which all unlinked PAN cards shall become inoperative from the 1st of April, 2023. The Income Tax Department has made it mandatory for all PAN holders who do not fall under the exempt category to link their PAN with their Aadhaar before the deadline. Failure to do so will result in unlinked PAN cards becoming inoperative.

If you possess both an Aadhaar card and a PAN card, you must link both of them by the 31st of March as per Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act 1961. Taxpayers can check the status of their PAN-Aadhaar linking online by visiting the Income Tax e-filing portal or via SMS.

How to link Pan card with Aadhar card online :

Step 1: Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal.

Step 2: Click the ‘Quick Links’ option on the homepage and select ‘Aadhaar status.’

Step 3: You will be redirected to a page that requires you to enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers.

Step 4: The server checks the PAN-Aadhaar link status, and a pop-up message will appear.

Step 5: If both your cards are linked, the message will say, “Your PAN is already linked to the given Aadhaar.”

Step 6: If your PAN and Aadhaar cards are not linked, the message will say, “PAN not linked with Aadhaar. Please click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ to link your Aadhaar with PAN.”

Step 7: If the linking process is in progress, you will see a message that says, “Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation. Please check the status later by clicking on ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ link on the Home Page.”

To check PAN-Aadhaar linking status via SMS, send an SMS to 567678 or 56161. The message will read, “Aadhaar is already associated with PAN in ITD Database” if both cards are linked. If the PAN and Aadhaar cards are not linked, the message will say, “Your Aadhaar is not associated with PAN in ITD Database.
